Dare

Continuing with the theme about the other Dogs I live with this post is about Dare.

Dare is a Blue Merle Border Collie boy who was born on the 8th of February 2007 and is the second oldest of our little pack.

Unfortunately Dare had a very bad ear infection as a puppy and had to have lots of tests including a CT scan and a BAER hearing test at the Royal Veterinary College in Hatfield. He then had a very long course of antibiotics and steroids but was unfortunately left completely deaf in one ear.

But you cannot really notice most of the time now that Dare is not able to tell what direction sounds are coming from as he copes really well with his mono deafness.

Dare is a bit of a couch potato liking nothing better than to laze about the house. Can't imagine where he learnt that from...

As you can see Dare has very blue eyes and also a very impressive Border Collie stare.

Dare's party piece is his ability to open all the doors in the house with either his paws or mouth. This includes the back door so he can always let himself (and the rest of us ) out into the garden whenever he wants.

Wow, Dare is pretty talented being able to open all the doors in the house! My parents' dog, Chloe, can open the refrigerator, so we have to keep a latch on it.

Dare was a pretty pup. Thank goodness his deafness doesn't stop him from enjoying life.

I have always wondered at his unusual coloring. Opening doors could be a disadvantage over here as in the winter he would let all the heat out. Can he open the front door and get out into the street???

No fortunately Doreen there is a catch on the door to the porch so he cannot get out of the front door to the street

What a cutie, I am rather partial to blue merles, he he. A shame about his hearing loss but I can see it doesn't bother him much. That is quite a talent to be able to open doors, smart guy.

He is just too too beautiful!!! So sad about his hearing loss but they do really well with such issues. My older dog Bonnie has lost much of her hearing in the past couple of months but watches me for eye contact. She's doing great!

Thanks so much for your visit today! I always love hearing from you!

Dare is beautiful. Being deaf in one ear is an advantage. He only hears half the madness. BOL.
