We were off today at a Flyball tournament today near Marlborough
which is in Wiltshire. The Countryside around the tournament site was quite spectacular.
The weather was very windy but we had some nice sunny spells
as you can see from these photos.
Because of the rain unfortunatelyno action pictures or videos to share this time but we did have a very successful day.
Auntie Breeze & Dare’s
team came 2nd in their division which was great.
But mine and Chips
team went one better and won our division and we didn’t lose a race all day. But to top
the whole weekends racing off I ran a new personal best ever race time in oneleg of
4.19 seconds. That’s pretty fast.
I think we all deserved a nice rest after all the racing excitement.
We were all a lot happier afterwards resting in the car than we actually look in this photo!
Forgot to mention that Chip damaged one of his dew claws at the weekend. So much so we had to take him out of the racing.
He was limping and cried when you touched it yesterday and today so he went down the vets tonight. They pulled it off (no anaesthetic) and he didn't half squeal when this was done. The boss said he didn't realise Chip could be that loud. As soon as he got back he was straight out in the garden as if nothing had happened.
On Saturday we were at another Flyball tournament this time in the Fens in a place called Great Barford.
It was a bit of a long drive taking us two and a half hours to get to the ground meaning we had to set off at 5.45am! It was also very windy which apparently is not uncommon as its very flat countryside.
We had some nice racing, didn't win anything, but we really stretched our legs !
Auntie Breeze and Dares team did make the 1/4 finals (it was a knock out competition). This is a video of them racing. Dare is the last dog racing in the two clips.
We didn't get a video of Auntie Breeze racing (unfortunately). As you can see she does enjoy getting her own way.
But we had a great day out as usual and slept all the way home.
We went down to the river walk again tonight. This time the boss was equipped with wellingtons boots and..
Just a few puddles! Its amazing how fast it has gone back to almost normal. Mind you there are lots of interesting smells everywhere as a result of all that water flowing along the paths.
And the river still looks very deep and fast flowing. I will have to keep a careful eye on any developments.
Yesterday we went for a nice picturesque walk down a riverbank path not far from where we live. But when we went back today we were faced with this sight!
The path has disappeared because the river has burst its bank from all the rain we have been having lately. Just to give you an idea of the amount of water flowing down the river this is what it looks like in the other direction down stream.
So it was back up to the road for us for a a less damp walk home.
Unusually we are not doing anything at all this weekend. No Flyball tournaments, no training, nothing. I am just lazing about the in garden on our lawn.
If you are a British reader of this blog it wont have escaped you that this bank Holiday we are celebrating our Queens Diamond Jubilee. Queen Elizabeth the Second has been on the throne for 60 years which must be a good reason to throw a few parties.
And what better way than to attend a flyball tournament draped with British flags and a Jubilee theme!
This time it was our own Clubs Tournament. I first I raced with my team Lightning Sprites on Saturday and we won our Division. This is me demonstrating in a race how I get all my feet on the box when I do a 'swimmers turn' to run back after getting my tennis ball.
Sunday I had a rest but the rest of my pack then raced. Chips team got a fourth place in their division but Auntie Breezes and Dares team also won their division. It was quite rainy on Sunday so everyone got very wet especially little Chip.
Then on Monday I raced in Multibreed Flyball. Unlike open flyball you need to race 4 different types of breed in the races so me being an English Shepherd and Chip being a Patterdale Terrier we got to run in ever race . We both raced in in the same team, Lightning Cocktail in the 1st division against the very fastest teams.
This is me in a race powering off the box after a turn.
It was quite exciting with some very close racing. We were seeded 2nd and our great rivals High Variety were seeded 1st in the 1st Division. Both teams went into the final race against each other unbeaten. So it was all down to these final few races of the day for the 1st Division title.
We are racing nearest the camera. In the three races I am the second dog and Chip is the last. Its very fast racing so if you blink you might miss us!
As you can probably guess from our team clapping at the end we won the races and the first division title with a new fastest ever team time of 17.41 seconds. It was unbelievably close racing as we only only won one race by .01 of a second!
So being crowned 1st Division Champions is not a bad way to celebrate the weekend of the Queens Diamond Jubilee
