Smartest dog...

There was an article this week in the UK newspapers saying that the smartest breed of dog is the Border Collie. (The cheer of agreement you can hear is Auntie Breeze and Dare)

However I think it depends on how exactly you measure intelligence.

This is Chip and as a Terrier his breed doesn't rate very highly on the newspaper list.

However to think of lying in the shade of clothes on the garden washing line, whilst the rest of us sit in the Sun, I think is a very clever for a dog...

I would say that all dogs have a high level of intelligence. But some are more trainable than others. I believe the border collie is one of the best because of his willing to please his master and his dedication to his job. You however have a different degree of intelligence. How many dogs have a blog and can tell the world about the other breeds.

I was listening to that on our local radio it was all very interesting. Not too sure where the Glen of Imaal terrier would rate!

I agree that terriers get a bad wrap in the intelligence department, but I agree with Doreen that people judge intelligence more as a willingness to learn rather than aptitude. Lizzie is one of the smartest dogs ever when she puts her mind to figuring something out. And patient - there is nothing more patient than a terrier who decides they want something, whether that be a rat climbing the house or riding the front seat of the car! They will not be deterred!

We think all all dogs are smart in their own unique ways...

That's real intelligence and a whole lot of common sense. I haven't met a silly dog, mad ones and some are slower but you canines are definitely TOPS
